RECAP

  • Omnipresence
  • Inner presence
  • Manifest presence

Lucifer attempted to steal worship from God while he was in heaven, and he continues to try to steal worship from God today!

INTRODUCTION

1 Kings 3:5-9

At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?” 6 And Solomon said: “You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. 7 Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. 8 And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. 9 Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” (NKJV)

The reason for Solomon’s request to the Lord: He didn’t know how to go out or come in

Numbers 27:15-17

Then Moses spoke to the Lord, saying: 16 “Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, 17 who may go out before them and go in before them, who may lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not be like sheep which have no shepherd.” (NKJV)

Deuteronomy 31:1-2

Then Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel. 2 And he said to them: “I am one hundred and twenty years old today. I can no longer go out and come in…” (NKJV)

Deuteronomy 28:6

“Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.” (NKJV)

John 10:9

I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. (NKJV)

Joshua 14:11

As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. (NKJV)

Going out and coming in were military terms.

1 Samuel 18:12-16

Now Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him, but had departed from Saul. 13 Therefore Saul removed him from his presence, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people. 14 And David behaved wisely in all his ways, and the Lord was with him. 15 Therefore, when Saul saw that he behaved very wisely, he was afraid of him. 16 But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them. (NKJV)

  • Before David was a warrior, he was a shepherd.
  • The success of going out is dependent on what we do when we come in.
  • What did they do when they came in? They worshipped!
  • Worship brings God's presence in our lives.

1 Samuel 18:12

Now Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him (NKJV)

1 Samuel 18:14

And David behaved wisely in all his ways, and the Lord was with him. (NKJV)

  • What made David a great king was not that he was a shepherd first, or a warrior first, but that he was a worshipper first
  • David knew how to go out and fight, but more importantly, he knew how to come in!
  • If you don't come in to the presence of God, you will not be able to go out with the presence of God!

APPLICATION

Ezekiel 46:9

But when the people of the land come before the Lord on the appointed feast days, whoever enters by way of the north gate to worship shall go out by way of the south gate; and whoever enters by way of the south gate shall go out by way of the north gate. He shall not return by way of the gate through which he came, but shall go out through the opposite gate. (NKJV)

“Every time you come into My presence, you should leave different than the way that you came!”
